This course provides the common ground for multimedia technologies in many different aspects. The course is structured in three building blocks: multimedia systems for capturing, processing, and storing digital media; data compression of audio, images, and videos; and communication networks with a special focus on multimedia delivery in the Internet. In addition seminar talks, pre-assigned reading, group work and workshops will accompany the lecture. Students are expected to attend class, read the pre-assigned literature, participate in discussion, and give one presentation on specific readings. In addition, students are expected to document their group work results in a written document.
Gain fundamental knowledge in the field of media technology
Learning the architectures and mechanisms of digital multimedia systems
Understanding the underlying principles of data processing and compression
Getting an overview of current and upcoming wired and wireless networking technologies

All course material will be available as *.pdf files which can be viewed in a freely available Acrobat pdf-viewer from Adobe, the »Acrobat Reader«: Please look at   »Acrobat Reader«.

The *.zip files are compressed files. You have to install »WinZip« on your machine to open it. »WinZip« can also be downloaded at   http://www.winzip.com.

For those of you, who want to print several slides on one page to save paper and printer ink (good idea!) I would recommend to use any free printer tool like fineprint:
