Qualification Objectives:
Understanding the principles of information theory
Learning principles and standards for audio, image, and video compression

The course consists of lectures and home assignments. Details will be given in slides.

Introduction to information theory
Markoff Processes
Lossless and lossy compression algorithms
Audio, image, and video compression algorithms and standards



Material:
All course material will be available as *.pdf files which can be viewed in a freely available Acrobat pdf-viewer from Adobe, the »Acrobat Reader«: Please look at   »Acrobat Reader«.

The *.zip files are compressed files. You have to install »WinZip« on your machine to open it. »WinZip« can also be downloaded at   http://www.winzip.com.

For those of you, who want to print several slides on one page to save paper and printer ink (good idea!) I would recommend to use any free printer tool like fineprint:
